GANGTOK, July 8 - The Sikkim Congress has slammed the State Government over the issue of five persons allegedly entering the State without following the health protocol in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has also demanded temporary relief from service for the Sikkim Chief Secretary and the DGP, pending an inquiry.

Chief Minister PS Tamangs statement on Tuesday is unfortunate, stated State Congress chief Bharat Basnet. The Congress said that the incident (alleged entry of five persons sans any protocol) occurred in violation of all orders of the Centre and the State Government amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

How can the Chief Minister blame the incident on miscommunication? asked Basnet at a press conference held at the Congress head office here today. The Congress demanded that the State Government should constitute an independent probe panel and temporarily relieve the Chief Secretary and the DGP till the conclusion of the inquiry.

It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister is talking like a spokesperson for those guilty and is taking a stand which is against Constitutional propriety," the Congress chief said.

Basnet said that his party would meet the Governor and update him on the issue soon. He also criticised the BJP for keeping silence on the issue.
