ITANAGAR, Jan 7 - Si-Donyi, a major socio-religious festival of the Tagin community of Arunachal Pradesh, was celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour at Si-Donyi ground at Naharlagun here on Saturday.
Dressed in their colourful traditional attires, the members of the community residing in the State Capital Complex and its adjoining areas including Banderdewa and Karsingsa thronged the venue in large numbers to celebrate their annual festival.
Apart from rituals, the day-long celebration saw traditional performances from various cultural troupes, including a mega dance.
The annual festival is celebrated to venerate Si (Earth) and Donyi (Sun), the chief deities among Donyi-Poloism followed by Tagins. It is celebrated from January 4-6. During the festival, priests communicate to the Gods Si and Donyi to stop malevolent spirits from injuring people and to ask permission for quality crops and good health for all.
Gracing the festival as the chief guest, Power Minister Tamiyo Taga advocated for cultural exchange between all tribes of the State to understand each other better.
