SI assaulted on duty at Morigaon

MORIGAON, Aug 11 - A Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) posted in Morigaon border branch was allegedly assaulted on duty by some unidentified people at around 4.30 pm on Monday.

The incident occurred when the SI, identified as Prasad Ali, carried out an operation to apprehend a family suspected to be from Bangladesh origin. A police team led by the SI raided a house in Milanpur area of Morigaon where the family were residing.

The family was reportedly declared as foreigners by the Morigaon Foreigners Tribunal. According to local sources, the family members � a man who was a rickshaw puller and his wife � fled from the spot when the police team arrived there.

However, a group of miscreants attacked the office on duty. The SI sustained injuries in the incident, the official sources said.
