SGBG plea on road level

GUWAHATI, Nov 23 Urging the authorities to take up road reconstruction work in Guwahati in a scientific manner, the Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction over the ongoing construction work without maintaining the road level.

In a statement here, the NGO pointed out that the height of many roads in Guwahati are rising above the plinth level of the houses located on the roadsides. Many old localities of the city are now below the road level and are facing several problems, including waterlogging. The roads must be constructed after proper digging, added the statement.

In 2008, the SGBG had submitted a memorandum to the PWD wherein it appealed to the authorities not to increase the road level further. The government departments concerned must follow the rules laid down for maintaining the road level, added the statement.
