GUWAHATI, July 22 A 17-member team of Save Guwahati Build Guwahati a city-based organisation visited the flood-affected Bhomoraguri village of Hajo recently and distributed relief material among the 350 families of the village.

According to a statement from the NGO, the team led by SGBG president Dhiren Baruah and vice-president Ajai Dutta in association with the local Circle Office distributed from two to eight kgs of flat rice (chira) and jaggery to each family, medicines, chadar mekhela, childrens clothes, etc., among the villagers.

We have come to know that the area where flood relief material was distributed by SGBG is once again submerged in flood water, Dhiren Baruah said. The NGO also asked the State government and other political parties to forget their differences and work together to help the flood-affected people of the State.

We saw the condition of only a small portion of flood-affected areas of the State. The untold miseries of thousands of flood-hit families are beyond explanation. Thus we ask all the political parties, social and non-governmental organizations, etc., to work together to help the marooned people, Baruah added.

The SGBG also appealed the legislators, government and non-government officials workers, etc., to contribute their one days salary to the Chief Ministers Relief Fund so that it can reach the flood-affected people.

Such appeal can also be made in the ongoing session of the State Legislative Assembly, Baruah added.

The organisation also plans to visit other flood-affected places of the State as and when time permits. It may be mentioned that the SGBG has always been in the forefront while taking up social issues.
