Several new projects launched under Mission Soulful Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, Jan 20 - Sivasagar district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Dr MS Laksmipriya has undertaken several new projects under its umbrella mission �Mission Soulful Sivasagar� launched recently.

The ambitious mission is expected to bring in a new dawn to the mandir township as one of the brightest spots in the tourism map of India. In one such programme, �Project Pohar�, the district administration has undertaken the initiative to illuminate streets of the city with 2,000 stand-alone solar lights, 3,000 others in various schools. The administration will also distribute 50,000 solar study lamps among the students in rural areas.

The project will be implemented under Off Grid and Decentralised Solar PV Applications Programme-Phase III with 90 per cent subsidised cost under Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India. Deputy Commissioner Dr Laksmipriya expressed the hope that the project would initiate a new chapter in the nightlife of the historic city.

�Project Morom�, launched recently under Mission Soulful Sivasagar has already benefited hundreds of children and poor citizens in fighting severe cold wave in the district. Under the project, the district administration has been able to collect a huge amount of re-usable clothe, school bags and other warm items donated voluntarily by the citizens for distribution among the poor inmates of children home, old-age home and other deprived people in Soley Gaon, near the town.

The project aims at providing love, care and equal attention to the needy, helpless and homeless people.

Project Adhyayan is related to modernisation and digitisation of district library, besides development of community and mobile libraries in the district. In keeping with the pace of development of science and technology and the explosion of knowledge, digitisation and new changes have been planned as part of Mission Soulful Sivasagar to provide upgraded environment for students, readers and researchers.

Through �Khelo Sivasagar Khelo�, the district administration envisages maximum utilisation of sport talents in the district and groom them to shine in national and international arena. Sivasagar is traditionally considered a storehouse of sports talents and the first Arjuna Award winner of the State is also from Sivasagar.

Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India, has taken up much initiatives to revive sports culture through organising �Khelo India Khelo� programme at grassroot level and similarly, the district administration has launched �Khelo Sivasagar Khelo� on January 7 at Betbari HS playground amid a lot of enthusiasm of sports lovers and school children.

Inaugurating the project DC, Sivasagar, urged the people to help and participate in sport events to scout young talents at school level, block level and district level.

Yet another initiative �Project Nirmal� was launched in association with Sivasagar Municipality Board and Town Committees to keep the city clean and plastic-free. The new thing about the project is that the administration has announced to award half kilogramme of sugar to anyone who deposits 1 kg of plastics in designated locations.

To provide adequate training and coaching to young aspirants of IAS and ACS, the district administration also lunched �Project Lakshya� recently. The administration has sought expert guidance and cooperation from noted professionals and coaching institute ALS-IAS will impart training to the aspirants in several venues in Sivasagar.

A national IAS Talent Search Examination (NTSE) will also be held on January 25 through which candidates for coaching will be selected.
