Senior health official held for accepting bribe

JONAI, Aug 28 - The Joint Director of Health Services, Dhemaji Dr Abdul Latif was arrested by sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell of the Assam Police at Dhemaji on corruption charges on Monday evening.

Latif was caught red-handed by the sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption cell while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from one Mridul Sarma for clearing a bill against contract of medicine supply to different hospitals.

The accused had allegedly demanded a bribe against clearance of a pending bill worth Rs 1.83 lakh from Mridul Sarma, the contractor. Sarma lodged a complaint with the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam following which a trap was laid and the accused was arrested.
