SILAPATHAR, Jan 22 � The Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Dhemaji conducted its third scientific advisory committee meeting for the year 2015-16 at the DRDA conference hall of Dhemaji under the chairmanship of Dr KM Bujarbaruah, Vice Chancellor of the Assam Agricultural University, recently.
In the meeting, dignitaries present from the Assam Agricultural University were Director of Extension Education Dr HC Bhattacharjee, Director of Research (Veterinary) Dr Apurba Chakraborty and chief scientist of the Regional Agricultural Research Station at North Lakhimpur, Dr KK Sharma.
The Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji, Ajit Kumar Bordoloi, along with the respective district-level officials from the departments of Agriculture, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Fisheries Development, Sericulture, Soil Conservation, Social Welfare, Industries Centre and coordinator of ATMA, besides 10 progressive farmers of the district, also attended the meeting. The programme coordinator of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr Rijusmita Sarma Deka welcomed the members.
Dr HC Bhattacharjee briefed the house on the objectives of the SACM and shed light on the importance of the meeting. Thereafter, the Programme Coordinator narrated the ongoing activities of the KVK during 2014-15 and also presented the action plan to be taken by the Kendra for the year 2015-16 and requested the members present to offer their valuable suggestions for the activities to be taken up by the KVK, which would help the farming community at large.
The AAU Vice Chancellor advised the Krishi Vigyan Kendra to take up training, awareness programmes and exposure visits to promote sericulture within the district. He also stressed that the Kendra should take necessary steps to set up goat villages, work towards promoting integrated farming system, vermicompost, maize cultivation and popularisation of Assam mix among pregnant women and infants.
During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor also released a training manual, Contingency Crop Planning, prepared by the KVK, AICRPDA and BNCA under the TSP-NICRA Project, which is being implemented at Jalakiasuti village in the district. As a part of the programme, the Deputy Commissioner released the second edition of the KVK Newsletter for 2013-14.
The Vice Chancellor handed over the keys of a tractor to the president and secretary of the village-level TSP project monitoring committee of No. 1 Solokhani village for the Custom Hiring Centre that is being established in that village under the Tribal Sub-Plan Project. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from programme coordinator Dr Rijusmita Sarma Deka.
