School teachers� stir called off

DERGAON, March 16 - The ongoing strike called by the Assam High School Teachers� Association (AHSTA) protesting the Provincialisation Act, 2017 has been called off for an indefinite period.

The strike, initiated by the association on March 9 with a demand to amend the Act for securing the fate of public sector schools, has been called to ensure smooth functioning of the process of the evaluation of the HSLC answer-scripts to be started from March 17.

Talking to this correspondent, AHSTA spokesman Sachi Gohain said that the strike will be resumed after discussing the issue at the extended executive meeting convened on March 19 at 11 am at Shikshak Bhavan in Guwahati. He also urged all the members to attend the meeting without fail.
