School cricket at Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, March 4 - The 26th�AP Rao-Khireswar Dutta Inter School Cricket Tournament began here at the Darbar Field today under the aegis of Zangam.

Altogether eight schools are taking part in the championship.

In today�s matches, Markarz Academy of Nazira beat Sivasagar Govt HS School by 54 runs. Opting to bat first, Markarz boys scored 171 for 9 in 25 overs. Piyosh Roy Ghatowar top scored with 24 and Afridi Ahmed scored 20. In reply, Govt boys managed to score 119 for 9 in 25 overs. Sahid Shah top scored with 51.

In another match of the opening day, Holyname School (133 all out in 24.2 overs) defeated Rangpur Rastrabhasa School (99 all out in 15.1 overs) by 34 runs.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by Raman Sarma, Principal, Sivasagar Govt HS School, while Gobind Bhusan Baruah, working president of Zangam lit the ceremonial lamp.
