JORHAT, Feb 23 - Sivasagar Police last night arrested Hallaluddin Ahmed, a key accused in the Rs 65 lakh scam that took place in Sivasagar Zilla Parishad office last year.
A police official said that Ahmed, whom police were looking for, was arrested at the Sivasagar Sadar Police Station when he reportedly had come to offer a bribe of Rs two lakh to a senior police official, who laid the trap to nab him.
The official said Ahmed, a resident of Namti Misajan area of Sivasagar district wanted to offer the amount to police in order to get him �freed� from the case.
Police recovered Rs two lakh, several ATM cards and forged media cards from his possession. Last month, police arrested Subrata Choudhary, another employee of the same office in connection with the scam.
