SHILLONG, Aug 13 - The fate of Bangladesh National Party (BNP) leader, Salahuddin Ahmed hangs in balance after completion of the hearing in his case and the Court was scheduled to give its judgment today, but was deferred.
Officials said that Ahmed�s judgment was supposed to be given today by the Judicial Magistrate First Class, DG Kharshiing, but since the judgment was not ready it has been postponed to a later date.
�We cannot say when the judgment would be out, but it was not given today as the Magistrate said the judgment was not ready,� an official said.
The Bangladesh Opposition leader had been detained for illegal entry into India from Bangladesh and has been booked under section 14 of the Foreigner�s Act. He is out on bail with strict Court directions. He faces a maximum jail term of five years if proven guilty.
Ahmed has claimed that he was not aware how he landed in the State Capital here and indicated that he was probably dumped by unknown people. He, however, admitted that he did not possess any document when he was nabbed by the police here on May 9, 2015, when he was loitering around in Golf Link area in a state of disarray.
