Sahitya Akademi holds webinar on short stories

GUWAHATI, Nov 3 - National Academy of Letters Sahitya Akademi organised a webinar on trends in Assamese short stories written by young writers today, under its �Yuva Sahiti� programme.

The webinar was hosted by Devendra Dabesh, Secretary of Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata office, and attended by story writer Juri Baruah, literary critic and writer Bhaskar Jyoti Nath and poets Biva Rani Talukdar and Utpal Deka.

Nath delivered a speech on the emerging trends in short stories written by Assamese young writers and stressed the latest development in the art of storytelling in Assamese literature. He spoke at length on the tradition that has shaped Assamese short story from the nineteenth century.

�Assamese short story witnessed a sea change in its form and content. Young writers have ushered in novelty by exploring novel themes and experimenting with post-modern technique,� he said, adding that Assamese short story is on the right track and ruled out any threat to it.

Akademi Secretary Devendra Debesh stated that such a programme of multiple literary genres can be compared to the reading of vivid news items and articles in a single newspaper. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the secretary.
