HAILAKANDI, Jan 1 � The Asam Sahitya Sabha will construct a Bhavan here in memory of eminent personality late Raj Mohan Nath.
Addressing the Sahityar Priti Sanmilan at Hailakandi Circuit House here recently, the president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Rong Bong Terang said that Excise and Border Areas Development Minister Gautam Roy had extended all help and cooperation in this regard and that a five-member construction committee had already been formed with Gautam Gupta as convenor.
The Sabha took the decision to construct the Raj Mohan Nath memorial building in his birthplace at Hailakandi, Terang added. He recalled the contributions of Raj Mohan Nath on the occasion of his 111th birth anniversary.
Mentioning the literary activities in the Barak valley, Terang said that there is a plenty of talent in the Barak valley and announced that the Sabha would work for the valley�s literary uplift. He said that the Asam Sahitya Sabha is for the people of Assam.
The dilapidated road and rail communication in the Barak valley has created distance between both the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys. He said that the Bengalis should be given first preference in the Barak valley as the majority of the people of the area speak this language. Similarly, the Bodo language will get first preference in the Bodo-dominated area. Assamese will be treated as second language in these areas.
The secretary of the Sabha, Dr Paramananda Rajbangshi, vice president Bhupen Chandra Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi Bhuban Chandra Borah, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Debashis Chakraborty, president of Dreams, Gautam Gupta, Bijoy Kumar Dhar, Abul Hussain Mazumdar, Sanjit Bordoloi and Jadav Sharma also spoke on the occasion. The meet was presided over by the vice president, Kanak Chandra Sharma.
Earlier, all the members of the Asam Sahitya Sabha were felicitated by the president of Dreams, Gautam Gupta on behalf of Minister Gautam Roy. He also donated a copy of the CD published by the Dreams on the occasion of martyrs� day on May 19 last year.
As part of the visit of the sabha delegation, a multilingual writers� meet was also organised at the Karimganj District Library auditorium. It was inaugurated by North Karimganj MLA Mission Ranjan Das. Writers from different parts of the State participated in it.
Earlier, Terang inaugurated the newly-constructed regional office of the Asam Sahitya Sabha and the Raj Mohan Nath memorial lecture at Silchar.
