Rupam clinches triple crown in Jorhat Open

JORHAT, Dec 31 � Rupam Gogoi of Guwahati clinched triple crown in the 20th Jorhat Open Tennis Championship winning the boys U-18, men�s singles and doubles titles.

On the final day of the championship at the Jorhat Tennis Club here today, Rupam beat Mayukh Talukdar 6-0, 6-0 in a one-sided final while the Guwahati boy defeated his teammate Tutu Thapa 6-0, 6-2 for the men�s title. In the men�s double final, Rupam paired with Mayukh Talukdar to beat Tutu Thapa and Arunanshu Borthakur 6-2, 6-0 to complete his triple crown.

Guwahati girl Manaswinee Hazarika won the girls U-18 title with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory against Shreyoshi Dutta of Golaghat.

The boys U-14 title went to Archis Borthakur of Golaghat who beat Anchit Talukdar of Guwahati 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. The doubles title of that group was clinched by Anchit Talukdar and Rohan Chowdhury of Guwahati. They defeated Archis Talukdar and Anuresh Karmakar of Golaghat 7-6 (8), 6-7 (7) in the final. Local boy Parikhit Somani emerged champion in the boys U-12 group defeating Manas P Kuli of Sivasagar 6-1, 6-3.

In the closing function, Dr Deepa Dutta, Ajay Dutta, Makhan Gattani, Dr Animesh Baruah, FR Chowdhury, Nishant Jain and Ankush Dutta gave away the prizes.
