ITANAGAR, Dec 31 - Tourism in Arunachal is all set to get a big boost in 2016 with the sanction of Rs 97.13 crore by Centre, according to State Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Mama Natung.
The State Government had submitted a proposal called �Integrated Development of New Adventure Tourism in Arunachal Pradesh� for development of infrastructure and basic amenities to tap the immense tourism potential of the State. The proposal got the nod of Union Tourism Ministry, which was intimated to the State Government on Tuesday.
Of the total amount sanctioned, Rs 19.42 crore which is 20 per cent of the sanctioned Central Financial Assistance (CFA), has been released for utilisation by the State Government as the first instalment for starting the works.
This could be possible due to timely submission of utilisation certificates in respect of all schemes/programmes of the Ministry of Tourism sanctioned to the State Government in the last couple of years.
Terming the development as a �New Year gift� to the people of the State, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has urged the department to ensure that the fund is utilised judiciously and on time. �As per rule, the project should be commissioned within a maximum period of 30 months,� he said.
Of the projects sanctioned under the Integrated Development of New Adventure Tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, are development of tourist complex at Nafra, rafting and angling centres in Seppa, development of Papu, Pasa and Pakke Valleys in East Kameng, tourism infrastructure in Sagalee and Doimukh sub-divisions, craft bazaar with amphitheater at Ziro and infrastructure development in Yomcha sub-division.
A visibly happy Natung termed the development as key to realising the department�s goal of making Arunachal a tourism hub and most-sought-after tourist destination in the country as well as in the world.
