GUWAHATI, June 2 � The work to prepare a feasibility study and a detailed project report (DPR) for the Guwahati metro rail project has been awarded to RITES Ltd, a Government of India enterprise.
The Letter of Intent for this purpose was issued to RITES by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on May 30, officials said.
The scope of work consists of a feasibility study for 196 km.
The work of feasibility study and DPR shall be monitored by a 19-member monitoring-cum-advisory committee under the chairmanship of Jitesh Khosla, Chief Secretary to the State government.
The DPR is expected to be completed in 10 months. The project shall be taken in three phases.
The DPR will be prepared for phase one of 65 km on the Airport to Narengi corridor, Paltan Bazar to Khanapara corridor and Khanapara to Jalukbari corridor.
It may be mentioned that nine international firms had participated in the bidding process, including consultants from countries like the US, France, Spain, Germany, Korea and Singapore.
The proposed metro rail network will connect the north bank of the city via a road-cum-rail bridge over the Brahmaputra at Narengi (at south bank) and Kuruwa (at north bank).
The State PWD (Highway) has informed that provision of two-lane metro rail tracks shall be incorporated in the design of the six-lane bridge.
