GUWAHATI, Dec 27 - West Indies legend Sir Isaac Vivian Alexander Richards lavished praise on Indian skipper Virat Kohli for his aggressive brand of cricket.
The Antiguan who is here as the brand ambassador of the American University of Antigua College of Medicine (run by the Manipal Group) is on a multi-city tour in India to endorse his nation as an ideal destination for the medical school.
Regarding Indias ongoing tour Down Under, Richards said: This is Indias best chance to win their first Test series in Australia. India has the right set of pace bowlers unlike in the past but I would like to see them winning overseas on a much regular basis. Australians have been always aggressive and you have got someone like Virat Kohli who can give it back. Having someone like Virat is just magnificent.
Earlier, India used to play with four spinners. They now have four fast bowlers. It is good that things have changed. India realised that it needs that attitude. But India still has to do well in overseas, opined the hard hitting batsman. He said such a good team deserves overseas victories.
On Indian infrastructure he said, The infrastructure in India have improved a lot. Basically after introducing IPL it helped in a big way. It has brought money and the Indian team has got substance. I think India needs to win overseas but still there is a lot of ground to cover.
Sledging which has been a much talked about topic in cricket of late, Richards said that he did not have a problem if players stayed within limits. Sledging can get the best out of a competitive player and I am fine with it till it doesnt get personal.
Asked regarding which country stands a chance to lift the ICC World Cup in 2019, the destructive batsman who was a nightmare for any bowler during the 1970s and 1980s favoured England. Being the hosts and having a well balanced team, they have the best opportunity. Even Australia, Pakistan and India have an equal chance.
The 66-year-old who is still fit and strong revealed his fitness mantra by saying, I walk a lot and play golf regularly.
He also praised Assam tea by saying, The tea that you have here is one of the best in the world. This is a special place and I am enjoying my stay as the weather has been very pleasant unlike other regions of India.
