GUWAHATI, June 13 - The Indian Red Cross Society (IRSC), Assam State Branch, has chalked out a series of programmes in the humanitarian field, and aims to assist the most vulnerable people in times of disasters, wars and conflicts and prevent human suffering without any discrimination.

The idea is to build response capacities of the communities as well as its district branches to respond to any disaster or emergencies in time and provide necessary assistance to victims of any disasters, stated a press release issued by its general secretary Diganta Buzarbaruah. He further said the IRCS will conduct training and workshops to create a cadre of skilled volunteers in every community to reduce human suffering and risks of emergencies.

Some of the major programmes being implemented by the branch are disaster management and disaster risk reduction initiatives and mitigation activities like construction of raised platforms in flood-affected areas, Buzarbaruah added.
