SHILLONG, July 19 - The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) has adopted a remote village, Pyrda, which would now get proper health care facilities.
Pyrda is a remote village near Mawbeh, which is about 35 kms away from the State Capital and like most remote areas is in dire need of better health care facilities.
The village was adopted recently largely due to the initiative taken by Governor V Shanmuganathan, who is also the president of the ICRS, Meghalaya. Shanmuganathan mooted the idea recently.
Under the adoption programme, a charitable dispensary was opened with the aid of ICRS. About 200 patients were attended to by the doctors and prescribed medicines dispensed free of cost.
