RBI to issue new notes

GUWAHATI, Oct 13 - The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will shortly issue banknotes of Rs 10 deonmination without inset letter, in the Mahatma Gandhi Series with the signature of Dr D Subbarao, Governor, Reserve Bank of India, with the year of printing 2011 printed on the back of the banknote, with incorporation of the new rupee symbol.

The design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi Series 2005 issued earlier except for the rupee symbol.

All banknotes in the denomination of Rs 10 issued by the RBI in the past will continue to be legal tender, an official release from RBI said.

The RBI will also shortly issue Rs 20 denomination banknotes.
