Ramadan fasting begins

GUWAHATI, May 17 - With the holy month of Ramadan (also known as Ramzan) beginning today, devout Muslims have begun their month-long dawn-to-dusk fasting.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar when Muslims around the world focus on prayer, fasting, giving to charity, and religious devotion.

Governor Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal have wished the people of the State belonging to the Muslim community on the occasion of Ramadan.

State Congress president Ripun Bora and various other organizations also extended their Ramadan wishes.
