Meanwhile, the floodwaters are receding gradually in South West Garo Hills and West Garo Hills districts, but many people are still taking shelter in relief camps. More than 1.55 lakh residents of the two districts have been affected by the current deluge.

An elderly woman and an infant have been killed in the South West Garo Hills flood so far. The number of relief camps in the district has risen from 26 to 30. The number of camps in West Garo Hills has also increased after many flood-hit people sought refuge at safer places.
