�Rail Humsafar Saptaah� observed in Tinsukia Railway Division

TINSUKIA, June 1 - Along with the rest of the country, the Tinsukia Railway Division observed the �Rail Humsafar Saptaah� from May 26 to June 1 and undertook intensive activities specific to the theme of each day of the week.

Accordingly, day-wise Swachchta Diwas, Satkaar Diwas, Sewa Diwas, Satarkta Diwas, Saamanjasya Diwas and Sanyojan Diwas were observed during the week. Speaking on the occasion, Prashant Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway, Tinsukia revealed that the Tinsukia division had been awarded the overall efficientcy shield given by the NF Railway, for the last two consecutive year. The division also increased its efficiency, he said, adding that it has achieved 99.17 per cent punctuality in 1915-16, while its performance efficiency index touched 87 per cent.

The railway official further added that there was reduction in total signal failures � from 688 failures in 2013 to 524 failures in 2015-2016. The division also saved Rs 12.3 crore from internal checks., he said and added that several steps were taken to enhance the rail division�s capacity in the last two years with five station buildings at Naharkatiya, Safrai, Titabar, Borhat and Namrup being renovated.

Similarly, the Dibrugarh yard was extended by 30 metres to enhance the capacity of the depot to repair coaches. The division also changed 16 unmanned level crossing gates to manned level crossings, while two unmanned level crossings were closed, he informed. In addition to these, to improve the safety of pedestrians and vehicular traffic at unmanned level crossing, the division has deployed �Gate Mitras� at six unmanned crossing gates, he said.

The division also saw the creation of simultaneous reception facilities at 11 stations � Duliajan, Namrup, Bhojo, Lakwa, Nakachari, Kamarbandha Ali, Namtiali, Safrai, Selenghat, Chariali and Titabar. The division has taken several major initiatives in the last two years to improve passenger amenitites at different locations for the convenience of railway users including the introduction of SMS-based �Clean my coach� system for trains originating from Tinsukia division, the railway official said, adding that Jorhat has been developed as an �adash station�.
