Rahul meets State MLAs

NEW DELHI, July 23 Contrary to expectations, the North Cachar Hills financial scandal purportedly did not figure in the discussions between Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and young MLAs of Assam.

At least seven MLAs of Assam participated in the discussion with Gandhi at his Tuglaq Road office. The MLAs were joined by legislators from various other States.

Significantly, the MLAs were reluctant to be quoted, pointing to strict gag orders from the Congress general secretary. Those who were part of the discussion included Bolin Chetia, Raju Sahu, Bhupen Bora, Vivekananda Doloi, Rahul Roy amongst others. The absentees included Ghana Borgohain and Abdul Khaleque.

Sources said Gandhi held one-to-one discussion with each of the MLAs and mainly focused on organisational matters and implementation of the flagship programmes of the UPA Government. There was no discussion on the NC Hill scam, said another MLA.

However, it could not be confirmed whether any MLA broached up the burning issues during one-to-one discussion with Gandhi, said another MLA.
