IMPHAL, Dec 10 AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, in his one-hour-long Manipur visit on Monday, appealed to the people of the North East to feel comfortable to visit or work in any part of the country.

I feel happy when youths from North East and Manipur work in Delhi, said Rahul Gandhi, who arrived here this afternoon to inaugurate a State level convention of local bodies elected members on local self governance and 16 point flagship programme of UPA Government.

I like visiting Manipur, because people here are gentle, polite, besides you make us proud to be an Indian, he said referring to boxer MC Mary Koms success in the Olympics in London.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in his speech at the convention made it clear that Manipur was a princely State till it merged with the Indian Union on October 14, 1949. So, we have to protect the territorial integrity of India and also the territorial integrity of Manipur, he said.

The convention was followed by an interaction between visiting AICC general secretary and State Youth Congress leaders.
