GUWAHATI, Jan 25 - Security has been beefed up across the State, including the capital city in view of the Republic Day celebration tomorrow.

In Guwahati, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in and around the city, especially near the Latasil playground, the venue for the State-level Republic Day function.

"A security blanket has been thrown across Guwahati and special teams have been pressed into action for round-the-clock surveillance.

Adequate security personnel including paramilitary forces have been stationed at all the entry points to the city," Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Pradeep Chandra Saloi told The Assam Tribune.

"As far as Latasil playground is concerned, the venue was kept under our surveillance for the last few days and close-circuit television cameras have also been put in strategic locations to avert any kind of untoward incident during the day," Saloi stated.

He went on to state that though there is no specific threat perception, the security agencies are leaving no stone unturned to ensure fool-proof security.

Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik will ceremonially hoist the national flag at Latasil playground around 9 am tomorrow.
