Pune City FC edge past NorthEast United 1-0

GUWAHATI, Feb 7 - NorthEast United FC suffered yet another defeat in their own backyard as Pune City FC edged past the home team 1-0 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai here today.

Brazilian striker Marcelinho scored the all important goal for the visitors in the 86th minute. Having received a through-ball from Marko Stankovic, Marcelinho made absolutely no mistake in slotting the ball home.

Both the teams started the proceeding cautiously and play was mostly confined to the midfield. At the initial stage the Highlanders looked confident and kept the ball under their control for most of the time. They tested the Pune goalkeeper on a couple of occasions in the first quarter. But as the game progressed the visiting team started raiding the NEUFC territory with planned moves.

With this victory Pune City FC jumped to the second position in the points tally with 25 points from 14 outings. Bengaluru FC is leading the table with 30 points from 14 matches while Chennaiyin FC occupy the third position with 23 points from 13 outings.
