GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - Hundreds of differently-abled people under the banner of the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) began an indefinite hunger strike at Dispur Last Gate here today after the government failed to address the issues confronting them.
The assurances made by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal have remained unfulfilled. Recruitment of differently-abled people to 511 fourth grade posts too has not been completed yet, the PSSA alleged in a statement.
Other demands of the PSSA include increase in the monthly stipend from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 and a rest house in Guwahati for differently-abled people.
