Protest over JNU assault in NE on Jan 8, 9

NEW DELHI, Jan 7 - Expressing resentment over the attack on the students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) on Tuesday announced an agitation programme to protest against the brutal assault.

Addressing newsmen, AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya announced that there will be protest in all educational institutions and public places in the Northeast and Assam on January 8 and 9.

�Such incidents will not be tolerated and are not acceptable to the student community. The culprits should be booked and security arrangements should be made for students of the JNU,� he said.

�The JNU is a prestigious institution of the country and we condemn the barbaric action on the students of the institution. Both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister have failed to tackle the situation in JNU,� he alleged.
