Protest march by women organisations in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Jan 20 - At least three women organisations today took out a massive protest march from the Dibrugarh Town Railway Station to the office of the Deputy Commissioner here demanding regularisation of their jobs, increment in pay, increase in the budget of government schemes, etc.

The organisations included Anganwadi Karmi and Sahayak Sanstha, Midday Meal Employees� Union and Accredited Social Health Activist Union. The protest march was supported by Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), a trade union affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

The women protestors raised slogans throughout the hour-long march. The organisations demanded that their scheme-based jobs be converted into regular government jobs and salaries be paid instead of remuneration. The other demands included salary of at least Rs 18,000 per month, equal pay for equal job and increase in the budget of government schemes, etc.

The leaders of the three organisations later submitted a memorandum jointly to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister through the district administration.
