Prohibitory order in Sonitpur dist

TEZPUR, June 24 - In a bid to maintain law and order in the district, the ADC of Sonitpur, Kishan Kumar Sarma issued a prohibitory order under Section 144 in Sonitpur district.

Through the order, the district administration has prohibited gathering of five or more persons at any public place or entry into public place, playground, cinema hall, theatre etc. with weapons, etc., including moving on two-wheeler with pillion-rider. Moreover, forceful collection of donation, gift coupon and lottery are also prohibited without prior permission. Conducting meetings in public places, taking out of procession, shouting slogans etc. are also prohibited without prior permission of the authority concerned.

The order further stated that no loudspeakers causing sound pollution shall be played from 10 pm to 6 am at any place. Incidentally, though pillion-riding on two-wheelers is prohibited, ladies, children, security personnel and Government officials are exempted from this prohibition. This order has been enforced in the entire district with immediate effect and will continue until further orders.
