Probe ordered into constable�s custody death

IMPHAL, March 31 - Manipur Government has instituted a magisterial inquiry into the death of Md Manjur Ahmad, a suspended Manipur police constable who died in police custody on Saturday, sources said.

The Magisterial inquiry report should be submitted to the government within one month time, the sources added.

Ahmad was arrested in connection with the escape of Th Nando, a leader of proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Nando group) from JNIMS hospital in Imphal East district recently. Meanwhile, disciplinary proceeding has been initiated against Inspector T Sanatomba Singh of CID (SB) for his �dereliction of duty and grave misconduct� and placed him under suspension �with immediate effect� in connection with the custodial death of Ahmad.
