Prizes distributed to winners of RG Baruah art contest

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 - Eminent educationist Dr Satyendra Kumar Choudhury on Saturday urged the present generation to imbibe a positive mindset to succeed in their chosen fields.

Choudhury said this while addressing the prize distribution ceremony cum inauguration of an exhibition of the Singhapurush RG Baruah Memorial All Assam Art Competition, 2019, at the Assam Tribune premises. Choudhury, who was the guest of honour at the programme, also gave a brief account of RG Baruah and his contributions to the Assamese society.

The meeting was presided over by Dainik Asam Executive Editor Munin Bayan. National award winning actress Moloya Goswami was the distinguished guest.

Inaugurating the meeting, writer and former DGP Kuladhar Saikia said, �We should let children enjoy life in its simplicity and spontaneity. Art can help children develop vital educational and leadership skills that can be applied to every aspect of their lives.�

The art exhibition on the prize-winning paintings, inaugurated by Saikia, will remain open daily till January 21.

A song written as a tribute to RG Baruah, was launched during the event. It was written by Anuradha Das, while the music was composed by Tapan Kumar Lahkar. The music arrangement was done by Mousam Bora and it was sung by Anjanjyoti Choudhury, Nahid Afrin, Angarika Ayushi, Bhabana Lahkar and Debansi Sharma.

The art competition, organised by the Assam Tribune Sports Club as a tribute to the architect of modern Assam RG Baruah and to encourage creative spirit among children and teenagers, was held at 30 locations of the State. For Group A (Class V to VIII), the topic was �I wish to fly� and for Group B (Class IX to XII), the topic was �Advancement of Science�. In both categories, the winners were each given a trophy, certificate, plaque and a memento besides cash prizes of Rs 15,000 (first), Rs 10,000 (second), Rs 7,000 (third) and Rs 1,000 (fourth to tenth).

Editor of The Assam Tribune and Managing Director of the Assam Tribune Group PG Baruah gave away prizes to a number of winners, while some others were presented by the dignitaries. A sketch of the first page of Dainik Asam by Rajen Sharma was launched during the event and handed over to PG Baruah. Earlier, Hiranya Kumar Barman, president of the Assam Tribune Sports Club, welcomed everyone on behalf of the organisers, while club librarian Samindra Deka offered the vote of thanks.
