Prison staff, inmates donate relief fund

DIBRUGARH, July 24 - Inmates and staff of the Dibrugarh Central Jail yesterday made a donation of Rs 16,582 towards the Assam Chief Minister�s Relief Fund at a simple ceremony at the prison premises here. Jail Superintendent, Brajen Das, handed over the cheque to Assistant Commissioner Queen Gogoi on the occasion.

An official press release said the brief cheque handing function included singing of prayers by the prison inmates, who prayed for the safety of the flood-affected people of the State. The function was attended by many jail officials, including acting jailor Prasanta Saikia and assistant jailors Misbaul Haque, Debkamal Baruah, Dhiraj Gogoi, Bhaskar Jyoti Nath, Bikash Singh and jail teacher Dipak Dehingia.

On the other hand, a local socio-cultural group �Pothik� today held concerts at some localities in the city, in a flood relief collection drive. People in general have contributed, but not to the expected levels.
