Presidential Cup baseball inaugurated

GUWAHATI, April 22 - The Presidential Cup International Baseball Championship was inaugurated in a function held at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in the RG Baruah Sports Complex here today.

Although the organisers, Baseball Federation of India earlier announced that nine teams, including Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka among others will take part in the meet, hosted by Assam Baseball Association, today teams from India, Bangladesh, Nepal and few players with Bhutan jersey were found to be present in the opening ceremony.

Director of Sports Pabitra Ram Khound, SAI Regional Centre Director Subhash Basumatary, former Sports Commissioner Swapnanil Baruah, officials of the Baseball Federation of India were present on the occasion.

The competitions will be held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex and Nehru Stadium.

The Assam Government has allready released Rs 15 lakh for holding the championship.
