Pramathesh Baruah remembered

GAURIPUR, Dec 1 - Pramathesh Baruah, the legendary filmmaker and the eldest son of Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah, the Zaminder of the then Gauripur Zamindary estate was remembered on Wednesday in a memorial meeting organised at the Gauripur Public Library by the Gauripur Branch Sahitya Sabha on his 66th death anniversary.

Before starting of the memorial meeting, leading citizens of Gauripur, including the president of the branch Sahitya Sabha, paid floral tributes at the portrait of the hero of film Devdas.

The memorial meeting was held under the presidentship of Satyabrat Chakrabarty. The objectives of the meeting was explained by Atul Chandra Ray, secretary of the Sahitya Sabha branch. Anjali Brahma, vice president, Sadou Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Ashoka Chakrabarty, Retd Principal, PC Institution, veteran teachers Sabuj Chakrabarty, Kshitish Chandra Ray, Manas Chakrabarty, former secretary and a few others spoke about the history of the film industry and the contributions of Pramathesh Baruah. They also lamented that the contributions of the filmmaker were not properly assessed by the critics of the present-day film industry. Nothing was also done to highlight his tireless efforts for the improvement of the film industry. On the occasion, Sabha also remembered Amrit Bhusan Deb Adhikary, the fifth president of Asam Sahitya Sabha session held at Jorhat in 1923.
