GUWAHATI, Feb 18 � Pradyut Bora has tendered his resignation from the National Executive Committee as well as the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) citing dissatisfaction with the party leadership and failure of the Narendra Modi government to respect the aspirations of the people of Assam.
�It was with much hope and belief that the people of India gave a decisive mandate to the BJP under the leadership of Narendra Modi in the last Lok Sabha elections. After 10 dismal years under the Congress, people really bought into the idea of Acche Din Aa Rahe Hain. Today, after nine months, I am wondering if Acche Din are really around the corner, especially for my native state of Assam,� expressed Bora.
He pointed out that during the Lok Sabha elections Modi made waves by announcing that should BJP come to power, Bangladeshis (illegal migrants) would have to pack their bags. �Assam still wonders what happened to that announcement,� said Bora.
Bora also made known his dissatisfaction with the Centre�s response to flood in Assam. �For the last couple of years I have been fighting a PIL (No. 401 of 2012) in the Supreme Court on Assam�s flood situation. In my petition it is mentioned that in the 84 years between 1912 and 1996, Assam lost 2358 sq km to erosion by the Brahmaputra. Now compare this to the total area of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (1484 sq km) and Mumbai city (603 sq km). In other words, Brahmaputra has devoured land equal to four Mumbais. But is anybody in the Central Government even bothered? asked Bora wondering whether there is likely to be a different response this April/May when the first flush of floods would hit the State?
�Corruption comes in many forms. The most obvious is of course financial. But corruption can also be political. My charge is that many MPs and MLAs in Assam are remote-controlled by the Congress,� alleged Bora adding that Himanta Biswa Sarma has more influence over the affairs of Assam BJP than any other. Bora also voiced his disgust over reported move to induct Himanta into the BJP.
Bora, commenting on the present State BJP president, said that there could not have been a more arrogant, ill-tempered and coarse-mouthed office-bearer in BJP Assam�s history. In his letter Bora has urged the party leadership to take on Siddhartha Bhattacharya�s public pronouncements and behaviour. �Talk to the civil society and intelligentsia, and see what they have to say about BJP Assam under his leadership. Today all kinds of questionable characters are filing the leadership ranks of BJP Assam. Look at the Kisan Morcha. Two of its vice presidents were once �dreaded� ULFA militants,� he said.
