Polo tourney in Imphal gets under way

IMPHAL, Nov 22 - Manipur and Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan inaugurated the 9th edition of �Manipur Polo International 2015� here at the Mapal Kangjeibung, which is known as the oldest Polo ground in the world here today. Speaker of Manipur assembly Th Lokeshwor, Deputy Speaker Preshaw Shimray, Lok Sabha MPS Th Meinya, Thangso Baite and Rajya Sabha MP Abdul Salam besides MLA Y Surchandra attended the inaugural function. The polo tournament was organised every year as part of the ongoing 10-day Manipur Sangai Festival to showcase the uniqueness of the shy and gentle brow-antlered deer popularly known as Sangai which is found only in Manipur at the floating Keibul Lamjao National Park in Loktak Lake and to promote Manipur as a world class tourism destination.
