DIPHU, March 22 - Poll campaign is gaining momentum in Karbi Anglong with the BJP and BPF intensifying their campaign to defeat the Congress in Karbi Anglong.

To campaign for BJP candidate Sum Ronghang, the BTC chief, Hagrama Mohilary, Rajya Sabha MP, Biswajit Daimary and BJP election campaign convener, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in a big rally at Langhin Tiniali under 19-Diphu (ST) Legislative Assembly constituency on Monday.

Addressing the rally, Hagrama Mohilary, attacked the ruling Congress Government, charging it of betraying them. The Congress is sure to suffer the consequences this time in the ensuing Assembly elections, he said.

He reiterated that the BPF supported the Congress three times, but at the end they recalled their support to the Congress, as the latter betrayed them and the common people, Mohilary said.

He further said that the funds of different schemes sanctioned for the poor people was misappropriated and used for their political interests. He was confident that the BJP will form the next Government in the State and said that the BPF is supporting the BJP only to solve the issues that remained pending during the Congress regime.

Hagrama said that the Congress will lose in Karbi Anglong. He said that the face of the State will change with new developments if the BJP comes to power. Meanwhile, he urged all sections of people to oust Congress from power.

In his speech, BJP leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that the BPF will play an important role in the next government and important departments will be given to its MLAs. Slamming the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress Government, Dr Sarma said that BPF supported Congress in its need of hour, but after the ruling party got absolute majority, the party was dishonoured by the Congress. People now will have to be united to oust the family-centric Congress party, Sarma added.

Flaying the AIUDF Chief Badaruddin Ajmal, Dr Sarma urged voters not support the AIUDF in the Assembly elections in order to safeguard the indigenous people of Assam. Dr Sarma said that Ajmal will never be allowed to become the Chief Minister of Assam. For that purpose, the BJP is allying with the indigenous tribal political parties of Assam and the regional AGP party.

He urged the public to vote in favour of BJP candidate Sum Ronghang and Joyram Engleng from Diphu and Howraghat seats in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The rally was also addressed by Rajya Sabha MP, Biswajit Daimary, and the BJP candidates of Diphu and Howraghat constituencies, Sum Ronghang and Joyram Engleng.
