Polio vaccines to be administered to over one lakh children in Nalbari

NALBARI, Jan 8 - A total of 1,24,660 children below the age group of five years will be administered polio vaccines on January 19 at 576 polio booths in Nalbari district.

The vaccination programme will begin from 9 am and will continue till 4 pm. The ASHA and Anganwadi workers will travel house-to-house to cover the left out children on January 20 and 21. For smooth conduct of the programme, the district Health department will engage 2208 persons to complete the vaccination programme. In this connection, Deputy Commissioner, Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury organised a review meeting with the officials of the Health department, Social Welfare Development and Education department. In the meeting, Dr Arup Kumar Deka, senior medical officer of the World Health Organization (WHO) also spoke about the polio vaccination programme. He added that although the country has been declared as polio free, yet there is a recurring risk as the neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan are still polio endemic.
