GUWAHATI, March 1 � Fearing arrest in connection with the Jogdal murder case, Pranab Kumar Deka, the then officer-in-charge of Sonapur Police Station, today moved the Gauhati High Court seeking anticipatory bail.
Although the hearing on the bail petition took place today, the order is expected tomorrow, advocate U Choudhury, who appeared on behalf of Deka, told The Assam Tribune.
Deka pleaded for the anticipatory bail stating that he had no involvement in the case, where five persons, including four members of a family, were killed in Jogdal village under Sonapur police station (2009).
Deka, along with Abdul Matlif Choudhury, the then investigating officer of the case and the former deputy director of Forensic Science Laboratory Pushpak Kumar Baruah (now retired), have been indicted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the case.
Both Deka and Choudhury, who were posted in Jorabat police station and Hatigaon police station respectively, were subsequently closed to the headquarters. The trio is facing charges of evidence destruction.
Meanwhile, sleuths of CID, on Wednesday, quizzed the former deputy director of FSL in his Guwahati-based residence.
Sources in the CID, when asked to comment, said that the investigation was moving in the right direction and the future course of action would depend on the leads which the investigators would come across this sensational murder case.
