GUWAHATI, May 8 � Noted poet and actor Birinchi Bhattacharya passed away at a city nursing home this evening.
He was 62 and had been ailing for a while.
Born at Sarbhog in Barpeta district on September 10, 1951, Bhattacharya earned acclaim as a poet, playwright and comedian. He has around ten published works of poetry besides two novels and a few unpublished compilations of poems to his credit.
He leaves behind a brother and a sister besides a host of relatives and well-wishers.
His last rites will be performed at the Navagraha crematorium.
His death has been widely mourned.
