Physics programme at Nowgong College on Oct 13

GUWAHATI, Oct 11 - The Department of Physics of Nowgong College, Nagaon is going to organise a physics programme on October 13 from 11 am in association with the Physics Academy of North East (PANE), stated a press release.

On the occasion, Prof BN Goswami of Cotton University will deliver the PANE talk on the topic, �A Quiet Revolution in Weather Forecasting�.

It may be mentioned here that Prof Goswami, winner of Kamal Kumari National Award, 2008, is an internationally reputed scientist and a DST-SERB distinguished fellow.

Goswami was also the former director of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IIMT) after serving as professor in IISC. He has lots of scientific contributions, especially in the field of atmospheric dynamics.

The talk will highlight the basic challenges of the problems of weather forecasting, both technological as well as conceptual, and give a bird�s eye-view of research that was required to achieve the revolution.

He will also discuss the current status of India�s climate forecast system. All PANE life members and all other interested persons are requested to attend the lecture, added the release.
