SILCHAR, May 26 - After winning the Silchar Lok Sabha seat from what was believed to be a Congress stronghold, BJP�s newly-elected Member of Parliament Dr Rajdeep Roy made it clear that the new government will strive to solve the deadlock over the closed Cachar and Nagaon Paper Mills.
He was also quick to reiterate his party�s commitment regarding passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
�The Central Government is sincere about revival of the paper mills. There might be partial disinvestment, but we are making best efforts to resume production in the closed mills at Cachar and Nagaon. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is also monitoring the developments. Also, the party is clear in its stance over the passage of the CAB. Those who opposed the Bill were basically triggered by propaganda inside television studios and now they have been silenced. There is no doubt that the Bill, even with necessary modifications will be placed and passed in the near future,� Dr Roy told media persons at the BJP office here.
District BJP chief Kaushik Rai termed this win as the biggest turnaround for the BJP since 1991 when the party had won two seats of Silchar and Karimganj.
�When we took charge, we resolved to bag at least 4.50 lakh votes from Silchar. People have blessed us with 4.99 lakh votes. We want to assure the people that the development spree shall remain unabated in South Assam.�
