SIVASAGAR, Sept 5 - A panchayat sanmilan was organised at Sivasagar Natya Mandir recently. Addressing the members and office bearers of the three-tier PRI, Sewali Bordoloi, Chief Executive Officer, Zila Parishad said that India achieved independence in 1947 mainly due to the Quit India Movement that began on August 8 following Gandhis call to the nation for a do or die non-violent struggle to oust the British rulers. She also administered an oath to the participants to free India of poverty, corruption, caste-discrimination, dirt, communalism and terrorism by 2020.

Addressing the gathering as a resource person, Manoj Kumar Borthakur, Subject Teacher, Fuleswari Girls HS, Sivasagar, said that the panchayats hold the keys for the all-round development of the country and the world was today afflicted with conflicts and confusions. The self governed, self-sustained and self- reliant panchayats gifted with freedom to make their own plan, fund, functionaries, functions and fraternity with other NGOs can revive the rural economy and resuscitate the morose modern-day life, he added.

Santana Gohain, president ZP, called upon the PRI members to work with dedication to upgrade life in the rural regions.
