PATACHARKUCHI, Jan 7 - Pabindra Deka, MLA of Patacharkuchi LAC, urged the grassroot-level AGP workers under his constituency to join the anti-CAA stir for the safeguard of the indigenous people of the state.
He termed the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act-2019 as a dangerous piece of legislation against the indigenous people of the state. He was addressing an AGP party workers� meeting at Patacharkuchi on Sunday evening.
The meeting under reference was held at the Harendra Bhawan premises where the role of top party leaders like Phani Bhushan Choudhury, Keshab Mahanta, Atul Bora and Birendra Prasad Baishya of the AGP were vehemently criticised.
The meeting unanimously demanded the aforementioned party leaders to tender resignation from their posts, besides calling for their social boycott.While the people of the state, including various organisations had been strongly opposing the act, the party leaders allegedly supported it.
On the one hand the committees were urged to submit memorandum against the CAA, while the top party leaders betrayed the people of Assam and covertly supported the controversial Act.
Further, the said leaders do not maintain any touch with us, alleged Pabindra Deka. A number of senior leaders and workers of the AGP representing 21 anchalik committees of the constituency attended the meeting and echoed the same stand. A few among them are Harkanta Kalita, Harekrishna Medhi, Kushal Deka, Khanindra Nath Das and Apurba Deva Choudhury, to name just a few.
In the evening, a torchlight anti-CAA rally was taken out through Patacharkuchi town where a large number of party workers took part. They shouted slogans like �BJP go back�, �Atul Bora go back�, �Sarbananda go back�, �Himanta Biswa Sarma murdabad�, �Amit Shah go back� etc.
Meanwhile, Bajali sub-divisional AASU was visibly dissatisfied with the role of the MLA and asked him the reason why he was so late in responding to the mass protest against the controversial CAA, besides action mulled against the AGP leaders. He was asked to clarify his stand at the earliest.
Samudra Patgiri, secretary of Barpeta district AASU, Damodar Roy, president of Bajali sub-divisional AASU, along with other activists lobbed questions at the MLA.
In reply, the MLA admitted his late coming due to the prevailing situation and said that the party will definitely take strong action against the top leaders in the general council meeting (Sadharan Parishad). If by chance the party leadership fails to convene early council meeting, the grassroot-level activists will be constrained to hold the council in order to punish the errant leaders.
He also stated before the AASU leaders that the Patacharkuchi constituency committee had already passed a resolution demanding proper action against the party leaders and to boycott them from the party with immediate effect. The 56 district and 100 anchalik committees of the state also joined the anti-CAA stir. He apologised for the dual role of some party activists in this regard.
