GOALPARA, May 25 - The flood situation triggered by heavy rains for the last few days have inundated 35 villages under Balijana and 54 villages under Lakhipur revenue circles respectively, stated official sources.
More than 22,593 persons have been affected by the flood waters and a total of 33 relief camps have been set up in the district to assist around 8,941 persons, including 2,281 children. People marooned by the flood waters, especially in Chandamari, Fofonga (Part I&II) of the Bolbola areas, have erected their makeshift homes on both sides of the NH-37, while the total damage caused by the fresh wave of flood in the district is under assessment.
Meanwhile, following torrential rain, all the major rivers like Dudhnoi, Krishnai and Jinari in the district continue to rise, while Jinari is flowing above the danger mark at 40.75 metres, official sources said.
