Outing for cancer patients

GUWAHATI, July 22 - The Pain and Palliative Care Department of State Cancer Institute (SCI), GMCH, has introduced its first ever patient outing recreational programme for the indoor patients.

The programme was held under the guidance of Dr Arun Deka, head of the department, Pain and Palliative Care and Dr Kanakeswar Bhuyan, Medical Superintendent. A total of 10 patients and attendants were taken for an outing to the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on Saturday, said a statement issued today.

The patients and attendants were accompanied by Dr Dipankar Dakua, Medical Officer, Palliative Medicine; Hemprabha Rabha and other supporting staff.

�The patients who are undergoing treatment for different types of cancers are under tremendous influence of psychological and social problems along with other physical and spiritual issues. Such patients as well as their attendants need some break and refreshment from the daily stress and mental trauma and, therefore, the SCI administration is planning to continue this programme every month for such patients,� said a statement.
