Orientation prog for competitive exams held at Sonapur College

JORABAT, July 1 - The career counselling and placement cell of Sonapur College conducted a four-day orientation programme for competitive examinations that concluded on Saturday.

Altogether, 85 participants, including present and past students of Sonapur College and neighbouring Dimoria College, attended the programme.

The programme aimed at nurturing and grooming the students and enriching their skill in appearing in competitive examinations and facing interviews, said Dr Dipjyoti Deka and Shapna Medhi, conveners of the programme.

The programme was divided into eight sessions, where seven eminent personalities spoke on various aspects of competitive examinations.

Ranjan Baruah, CEO and founder of NE Youth Foundation, spoke on the various examinations that students could appear in, and also about using online resources like internet and smartphones for acquiring knowledge and updating oneself. Rajdeep Lekharu, director of Civil Services Achiever�s Point, Guwahati, spoke on presentation of the acquired knowledge in a different way to get an edge over other candidates in cracking competitive examinations.

Siddharth Pratim Dutta, a freelance life coach and communication trainer, spoke on how to face interviews and gave tips to the students to develop their personality. Saudamini Kakoti, deputy manager of SBI-SME, Guwahati, dealt on how to crack bank PO examinations. Mrigesh Narayan Baruah, director for Employment and Craftsmanship, Government of Assam, focussed on the importance of keeping oneself updated with current affairs. Nurul Islam Laskar, a public relations consultant, spoke about the motivation necessary to prepare oneself for such examinations.

On June 26, Sewali Chaudhury, former regional director of the Reserve Bank of India, stressed the need for developing a healthy competitive mindset amongst the younger generation to ensure success in competitive examinations, for which perseverance and focus were the basic prerequisites.

Sukanya Goswami, head of CSR at Star Cements Limited, emphasised on acquiring information about the affiliation and authenticity of any institute before registering for courses for a better career.

Sonapur College Principal Dr Devabrot Khanikor presented certificates to the participants during the valedictory function on June 29.
